3 EASY ways to add depth to your Squarespace Images & make 'em LESS BORING
Comin in hot with some quick design tips for you today! I know that sometimes it can be hard to know how to switch up your designs and make 'em less... boring and basic, esp when it comes to Squarespace, right?
Here's the first thing I wanna remind you of : Literally EVERY SINGLE TIME you hit the 'upload image' button in Squarespace, is a chance to upload something customised. You don't have to only upload flat images that you've just downloaded straight from Unsplash.
Even if its the most basic thing, like adding borders or some more layers, these things can totally transform the whole experience of your website from 'just another boring ass Squarespace website' to 'oh damn, this looks SLICK, and different'. This shit is the secret (or not so secret?) sauce, I tell ya. 😜
And it doesn't have to be as complicated as you might think. I've rounded up THREE easy AF things you can try. These are good to go no matter what program you're using, so if you're in Canva you can give it a shot, or in Adobe, or whatever works for you. 👉
1 — Add a double outline to images
— Do the first outline (e.g. the black one in the example) with a ‘stroke’ outline in any Adobe program, then add a coloured box behind that and resize as needed
— Alternatively, in Canva or any app you can also add two solid coloured boxes behind the image, and resize as needed
2 — Add some enlarged text to the background
You can do this with handwriting, or actual text. The key is to make the size + colour of the text not look like it should be readable. Usually that means making the text huge, and having it go off the page, and making the colour blend into the background a bit — so it’s not obvious at all what it says, as its just a design thing, not for actual informational purposes lol.
I would also reccomend making the background transparent (or the same colour as the background of the site), if possible, so it looks a bit more integrated with the rest of the website.
3 — Rotate and/or resize the image
This is a really awesome way to get the most bang-for-your-buck out of a single photo. Assuming you’ve got a high res photo, you can scale it up and down, and play around with the orientation to then create multiple image options from that one OG image. Sweet hey?
So when you start to combine these things, you create a new, CUSTOM image style for yourself that you can use across your website, anywhere you upload new images.
